The Saxophone Extravaganza
The first Saxophone Extravaganza concert was held in 2010 in Iowa City, Iowa. It was a result of a series of saxophone choir concerts that were held at Wartburg College and through The Jane Williams Saxophone Studio.
Dr. Williams thought it would probably be a great idea to assemble her studio together with other amateur and professional saxophonists from across Iowa in order to perform as a large saxophone orchestra. The extravaganza is meant to inspire young saxophonists and demonstrate the versatility of the saxophone as both a classical and a jazz instrument. Extravaganzas have featured the entire gamut from as young as sixth grade up through graduate level players, as well as professional jazz artists and well-known university professors.
While in Iowa City, the event grew each year, and featured both classical and jazz works. All of the music was arranged specifically for these groups by Timothy J. Schultz, a former Wartburg alum and former student of Jane Williams. Some links to this event and previous years can be found below.
